About this place
Nestled among towering pines on the shores of spring‑fed Lake Avalon, our handcrafted log retreat invites you to unplug and embrace lake life. This three‑bedroom, 1½ bath cabin comfortably sleeps up to six guests with a king, queen and two twin beds, making it ideal for families or a group of friends. A wall of windows frames sweeping water views, and the spacious deck and dock let you savor coffee at sunrise or dock your boat for afternoon swims.
Inside, you’ll find a warm, wood‑paneled interior with an open kitchen and living area designed for together time. Cook up family meals in the fully equipped kitchen, gather around the six‑person dining table for board games, or curl up with a book in the cozy sitting area. Central air conditioning, ceiling fans and portable fans keep things comfortable on hot summer days, while a washer, dryer and Wi‑Fi provide modern conveniences.
Step outdoors to discover multiple decks overlooking the lake, a large dock with seating, and a private, sandy‑bottom swimming area just 90 steps from your door. The enclosed dog run means four‑legged family members are welcome, and you’ll have the use of two kayaks, a rowboat and a lily pad float. In the evening, roast marshmallows by the fire pit or dine alfresco under the stars. Skip the hotel crowd—this is cabin time at its finest, and when you book direct you avoid traveler fees.
What sets our retreat apart is the lake itself: a crystal‑clear, spring‑fed gem with a sandy bottom that feels almost Caribbean. Whether you’re lounging on the lily pad, paddling the provided kayaks, or casting a line from the private dock, Lake Avalon’s pristine waters invite endless fun. There’s room to moor your own boat, and we even offer a pontoon rental for guests who want to cruise in style.
The property was designed with both two‑ and four‑legged guests in mind. A fenced dog run keeps pets safe while you relax on the deck, and there’s ample parking and a gentle stairway down to the shoreline. Outdoor living shines here, with a fire pit for s’mores, outdoor dining area, gas grill, and plenty of Adirondack chairs for sunset watching.
On site, spend your days swimming, fishing, or simply soaking up the sun from the dock. Take the kayaks out for a morning paddle, challenge the kids to cannonball contests off the lily pad, or explore the lake’s quiet coves in the rowboat. In the evenings, watch for shooting stars around the fire pit or share stories and snacks on the deck.
Beyond the cabin, Hillman and the surrounding area offer plenty of northwoods adventures. Golfers will love Thunder Bay Golf Resort just eight miles away, while hikers and anglers can explore Clear Lake State Park and the trails around Brush Creek Mill. Nearby Ocqueoc Falls promises a scenic day hike with waterfalls and picnic spots, and the Mackinac Bridge, Mackinac Island and Lake Huron beaches are just over an hour away.
When it’s time to refuel, head into Hillman for comfort food at Chauncey’s Bar and Grill, Good Times or VanPamel’s Hometown Diner (the locals swear by their breakfasts). For supplies, stock up at Eli’s Marketplace or Freddie’s Market in nearby Atlanta. If you’re craving a bigger city vibe, Alpena is just thirty minutes away with wineries, brew pubs and eclectic shopping. However you spend your days, you’ll love returning to the peace of Lake Avalon Retreat.
If the weather keeps you indoors, the cabin is stocked with board games, books and streaming TV to keep everyone entertained. There’s Wi‑Fi for staying connected, but we recommend trading screens for some old-fashioned cabin fun.
